Violli Best Buys - Ebooks

Thinking of selling eBooks yourself?

I am often asked for recommendations by people thinking of starting to sell eBooks themselves so have decided to write this free brief guide so as to help others as they start out upon the road to financial independence by building this extra source of income.

If you are thinking of earning a bit of spare cash by selling eBooks on eBay then there are two fundamental steps you need to take:  Firstly you need to open an eBay account, and secondly you need to open a PayPal account. It is quite probable that you already have both of these accounts but if not I suggest opening them straight away as both an eBay and PayPal account are free to open and you need both of these accounts up and running before you can go any further.

You can apply for an account with eBay UK by clicking HERE, or, if you live in the USA, you can open an account with eBay.com by clicking HERE.   However once you have opened your eBay account you need to also apply for an eBay “Sellers Account” (click HERE to view the eBay help page on how to do this).

You can open an account with PayPal by clicking HERE.  Note that PayPal offer three types of account: “Personal Account”, “Premier Account” and “Business Account”.  The default is to open a “Personal Account” but this is intended for shopping and buying things; if you want to accept payments by Credit Cards then you must open either a “Premier” or “Business” account.  Almost everyone will pay you for your eBooks by Credit Card so you really do need to select either a “Premier” (if selling privately) or “Business” (if selling eBooks as a business) account.

Once you have your eBay and PayPal account up and running the next step is to obtain some eBooks to sell. You can purchase a “ready made” stock of eBooks such as I offer (click HERE for details), or else you can purchase your eBooks individually on eBay.  On the UK eBay site, eBooks are normally listed in the “Everything Else > Information Products > Information Services” section of eBay (click HERE to browse).

Once you have opened an eBay Seller’s account, opened a PayPal account, and purchased some stock eBooks to sell the next step is to learn how to sell.  The eBay website has a very good free on-line selling guide which takes you through the sale process step by step (click HERE to view), or, if you have some money available and would like more in-depth training I would throughly recommend the 90 Day Powerseller Challenge (click HERE for details).

It is worth giving some thought as to how to send your customers the eBooks they purchase from you.  Many people start by simply emailing the eBook to their customers as an email attachment when they notice someone has purchased something.  This is probably ok to start with but as you begin to sell more and more eBooks you will quickly find this manual method becoming very time consuming.  Also of course there will be a time delay between when someone buys the eBook and when you next switch on your computer and get around to sending them their eBook.  It is much better, and less time consuming, to arrange for your eBooks to be sent to customers automatically.  You can configure Outlook Express to do this for you (click HERE for details of an eBook I sell which explains how to do this), or you can purchase software to run on your webspace to do this for you automatically even when your PC is switched off or you are on holiday. I use MyDigitalDispatch software so I can automatically send eBooks to both my eBay and website customers even when my PC is switched off (click HERE for details).

If you are looking for a reliable, and affordable, company to host your website then I would recommend the European webhost "1 & 1" (click HERE for details) who I have chosen to host this website, or, if you prefer a hosting company in the USA, Hostgator (click HERE for details) is worth a look.

Finally, I would recommend subscribing to an “Autoresponder” service so you can offer your customers a regular newsletter or eZine so they can keep in touch with the new eBooks you offer and through which you can share help and advice and discuss topics of interest. I use the Aweber autoresponder service (click HERE for details and a risk free 30 day trial) so I can offering a newsletter and follow-up emails to my customers.

Don’t forget that all the eBooks I sell come with full Re-sell Rights so, even if you initially just purchased them for your own pleasure and information, you are free to sell them yourself on eBay… What are you waiting for???  Just re-read everything I have written above and start earning some useful extra income yourself!

Best wishes,

Ian.
